About Us

We are a 501(c)(3) organization funded by city and county funds, grants from private foundations and by donations from generous individuals and corporations. We are staffed entirely by volunteers who donate their time for the service of the community. Donations are fully tax-deductible.

THE OLD ROCK BUILDING

The Old Rock Building, home of the Gordon Community Library and Museum, is possibly the oldest building in Gordon. It was built sometime between 1880 and 1900 to serve as a grocery store.

    The Library Renovation

The building was eventually abandoned and fell into disrepair. It was donated to the city by the Barton family. In 2009 a group of community minded citizens organized a non-profit organization in order to establish a library and small museum in the historic building.

Using both city funds and private donations, the building was renovated inside and out including the addition of previously non-existent plumbing. Books came from donations and purchases made with grant money. A generous grant from the Tocker Foundation funded purchases of computer equipment and furniture.

Bonnie Dickson, a well know local landscape artist known for her bluebonnet scenes, designed and painted the murals on the ceiling and around three walls.

The library opened to the public in the spring of 2010.
